SkyTrain custodian’s teeth knocked out in unprovoked attack

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A SkyTrain custodian is missing several teeth after a violent attack on transit.
It happened as the worker was cleaning a SkyTrain car at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, as the train headed to VCC-Clark Station. A man is believed to have simply walked up to the employee and violently punched him in the face.
“He punched the victim so hard that the victim lost multiple teeth and began bleeding heavily from his mouth,” Sgt. Clint Hampton with Transit Police said.

Hampton says it appears this was an unprovoked attack.
The suspect was arrested at the next station. The victim was treated in the hospital for his injuries.

“An attack like this is reprehensible,” Hampton said. “This employee was providing an essential and highly valuable service to the public by maintaining a clean and healthy space for transit users during a pandemic. Everyone has the right to ride on transit without fear of harassment or assault, including frontline employees who keep the system moving.”
A 25-year-old man is charged with assault causing bodily harm. He has no fixed address and is well-known to police.
He’s been released from custody on several conditions, including not riding SkyTrain and not contacting the victim.
