Still no motive, one month after deadly Lynn Valley Library stabbing

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – One month since the deadly stabbing at the Lynn Valley Library in North Vancouver, it’s still unknown what could have been the motive behind the crime.

A woman in her 20s was killed in the attack and six people, ranging in age from 22 to 78, were hurt. Yannick Bandaogo, 28, was arrested near the library and is charged with second-degree murder.

North Vancouver RCMP are still trying to figure out what prompted the attack in daylight, with so many people around, and have conducted dozens of interviews and scanned through surveillance footage.

“Tracking his movements that day. Understanding how he got to North Vancouver. Why did he come to North Vancouver? That involves a lot of interviews, witness interviews, CCTV footage review, and IHIT is leading most of that, and they are asking us for help,” Supt. Ghalib Bhayani said.

Police have said the man from Quebec did not know any of the victims.

Bhayani says police learned several things the day of the stabbings.

“The first thing we learned is that our officers, who serve the community, are well trained,” he said. “We also learned that the North Vancouver community is stronger than anyone imagined. We saw and heard about incredible acts of bravery. We learned about our members of our community who jumped in there, put their own lives at risk, selfless individuals to help out their neighbours and their friends.”
