VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The intense heat in the Lower Mainland has triggered an Air Quality Advisory by Metro Vancouver for parts of the region, as well as the Fraser Valley, through Saturday.
The air quality has taken a hit thanks to high concentrations of ground-level ozone — a combination of car emissions and other solvents reacting to the intense sun.
The air quality is expected to be impacted over the next few days, and Metro Vancouver says people should avoid outdoor activities when ozone levels are highest, usually mid-afternoon to early evening.

Exposure to ground-level ozone is also a concern for those with underlying health conditions, such as lung and heart disease.
Meanwhile, evacuation alerts have been issued for areas near rivers in the Squamish-Lillooet regional district.
The prolonged heat is causing a rapid snow melt, and some flooding has already occurred.
