VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A fire in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood has displaced at least two people.
Crews were called to a home in the area of Fraser Street and 12th Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Monday for reports of thick black smoke coming from a house.
“We initiated an aggressive fire attack, got into the suite, and knocked the fire down,” said Battalion Chief Dave Rosenlund. “Nobody was complaining at the beginning about any injuries. One adult male later on wanted B.C. Ambulance to show up, he’s got a little bit of smoke inhalation.”

Rosenlund says it appears a candle may be to blame for the fire. He notes the people living in the top floor suite will not be able to return home right now.
“The middle floor suite, there’s water damage in that suite,” he added.
Meanwhile, a fire burning near UBC sent thick plumes of smoke into the air, visible from across the region.

Rosenlund says it appears a truck fire in a laneway off Chancellor Blvd. spread to a nearby garage.

The fire was quickly doused and crews managed to prevent it from spreading to other structures.
