Video of suspect in Kelowna double shooting released by Mounties

KELOWNA (NEWS 1130) — New video has been released of the suspect in a daylight shooting that happened in a busy area of Kelowna over the long weekend.

On Saturday, two men were shot before 7 p.m. in the area of Pandosy Street and KLO Road, just blocks from the popular Boyce-Gyro beach park. RCMP believe the shooting was targeted.

Kyle Gianis of West Kelowna was injured. The 37-year-old has ties to the ongoing gang conflict, and RCMP have issued a warning that anyone associating with him could become collateral damage if he is targeted again.

He has since been released from hospital.

A 25-year-old Surrey man remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

At the crime scene, investigators discovered an unexploded improvised device, which the RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit determined was a viable explosive.

This device had the potential to cause significant damage to property and seriously injure members of the public that evening, said Kelowna RCMP Insp. Beth McAndie.

The Kelowna RCMP says the device is a mark of a dramatic escalation in violence, and put innocent people in danger.

Mounties are working to catch anyone responsible, and have now released a surveillance video and images of the suspect allegedly fleeing the scene after the shooting.

The RCMP say the suspect in the video is wearing light coloured pants, and a light coloured sweatshirt with the hood pulled up.
