VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — The province continues to see rising numbers of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and patients in intensive care, according to provincial health officials.

Vaccination numbers also continue to increase, with 84.5 per cent of eligible people having received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 76.7 per cent fully vaccinated.

An outbreak has been declared at Arbutus Place Care Centre in Vancouver, bringing the total number of active outbreaks in long-term and acute care facilities up to 19. While the Interior Health region saw the highest number of new infections, with 266, the number of people who tested positive for the virus in Fraser Health has climbed to 246.

Wednesday’s update coincided with large protests against B.C.’s vaccine passport and COVID-19 restrictions that targeted hospitals in a number of communities.
