SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Mounties are seeking witnesses after Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum said he was verbally abused and hit by a vehicle on Saturday.
The RCMP says it would like to speak with anyone who may have information, dashcam footage, or seen an altercation involving McCallum and a grey Ford Mustang at a “Keep the RCMP in Surrey” gathering just after noon.
It happened just outside the Save on Foods along 152nd Street where RCMP supporters were gathering signatures for a proposed referendum.

Organizers with the group refute McCallum’s claims that he was “verbally assaulted and then run over by a vehicle while out grocery shopping,” saying instead that the mayor was the one who was being antagonistic.
“We were out there collecting the signatures … and McCallum came across storming down to come and see us,” said organizer Ivan Scott. “I was sitting there and he stormed across to me and he said, ‘You’re not allowed to be here.’”
The Surrey RCMP is asking anyone with information or footage to contact investigators at 604.599.0502. You can also contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1.800.222.8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
