Alberta surpasses 3,000 total deaths from COVID-19

Alberta passed a grim milestone in the fight against COVID-19 on Wednesday afternoon.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the province has now reported more than 3,000 deaths from the virus.
Alberta passed the milestone after reporting 18 additional deaths on Wednesday.

While the province saw a slight rise in COVID-related deaths over the last day, hospitalization numbers continued on the decline.
There are now 928 people in Alberta hospitals with COVID-19, a 36 person decrease from the day prior.
Of those in hospital, 203 are in the ICU, 90 per cent of which are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
As for COVID infections, the province reported 786 new cases on Wednesday afternoon.
The new cases come after more than 12,000 tests were completed, for a positivity rate of around 6.5 per cent.
There are now 10,824 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta.

On the vaccination front, Alberta administered nearly 15,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine over the last day.
The province has now administered nearly 6.39 million doses to date.
Of those 12 and older in the province, 86.2 per cent have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 77.9 per cent are fully immunized.
