Blustery conditions expected for Metro Vancouver, special weather statement issued

Batten down the hatches this weekend, as Environment Canada warns Metro Vancouver of very windy conditions this weekend.

The weather service issued an alert Saturday morning for Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, the North Shore, Richmond, and Delta for strong winds starting Sunday morning and continuing through to Monday afternoon.

It says a “rapidly deepening low-pressure system from the Pacific” will approach Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, powering southwesterly winds of between 70 to 90 km/h.

Gusts exceeding 100 km/h are expected to hit parts of Vancouver Island on Sunday night.
