Suspect in custody after reports of shooter in Vanderhoof, B.C.

A man has been arrested after Mounties in Vanderhoof alerted people in the central B.C. community of a shooter targetting an RCMP detachment Thursday afternoon.

Police sent an alert advising a suspect was in custody shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says there are no reported injuries at this time.

Earlier that day, Vanderhoof RCMP said a shooter with a long gun began targeting the police detachment and then continued to drive around the area.

Police asked everyone to stay inside or shelter in place, lock their doors, avoid the downtown area, and follow police instructions.

Mounties also said they were looking for one male suspect in a pick-up truck who was considered armed and dangerous.

Specialized police units were deployed.

A localized police Emergency Alert was issued in Vanderhoof, advising people in or around the area about the situation.
