Langley shooting kills teen, injures bystander

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has provided an update to the brazen daytime shooting in Langley confirming the victim is an 18-year-old, and say they believe Julian Cardenas was targeted.

A shooting in Walnut Grove left one person injured and another dead, say Langley RCMP.

Police say shots rang out just before 2 p.m. around 88 Avenue and 202 Street.

They received multiple calls for assistance before officers arrived to discover one person with gunshot wounds. Although paramedics on site intervened, the victim succumbed to their injuries.

“The deceased victim has been identified as 18-year-old Julian Moya Cardenas from Langley, who is known to police. Initial belief is that this shooting was targeted,” says a statement from IHIT.

“Homicide investigators are looking to speak with anyone who knew of Mr. Moya Cardenas’ activities and associates.”

A bystander was also hit and taken to the nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The RCMP has identified them, but is not releasing their name.

“Our thoughts go out to the families of those impacted by this incident,” said Sergeant David Lee of IHIT.

“The shooting was reckless and a complete disregard for the safety of the community.”
