Patrik Allvin has accepted an offer to become the Vancouver Canucks’ new general manager, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on Tuesday night.
The news was confirmed by the Vancouver Canucks via social media on Wednesday morning.
“Leading an NHL team in Canada is an honour and building a championship team in Vancouver is our goal. Jim has assembled a diverse and talented hockey operations group in Vancouver, and I look forward to working closely with all of them as we build a team that fans will be proud of and will ultimately compete again for a Stanley Cup,” Allvin said in a statement.
"Coming from Pittsburgh, we parted ways with a lot of picks, but we always found ways to get players."

Allvin will be leaving his current role as the Pittsburgh Penguins assistant general manager. The Canucks have been without a GM since Jim Benning was fired in December, with Jim Rutherford filling in while the search for a replacement was underway.
Word is out that Patrik Allvin has accepted the GM job in VAN. Official announcement expected tomorrow, although we will see if timeline changes due to all the news tonight

Allvin worked with Rutherford for six seasons in Pittsburgh. The 47-year-old briefly served as interim general manager after Rutherford resigned last January. He interviewed for the permanent position before losing out to Ron Hextall.
Allvin was the Penguins’ director of European scouting from 2012 until 2017 when he was promoted to director of amateur scouting. He eventually received the assistant GM title in November 2020.
The GM hiring follows the Canucks’ appointment of former player agent Emilie Castonguay as assistant GM. She’s the first woman to hold the position in franchise history.
