British Columbians will soon be able to renew their ICBC insurance policies online through a computer, tablet, or even a smart phone.
Changes officially take effect May 1, though some people will be able to renew their insurance online as soon as March 17.
In addition to renewing policies online, drivers will also be able to change their address, apply for discounts, and even update the list of drivers on their policy in this manner, without having to physically go into a broker’s office to do so.

The province says ICBC is investing $1 million to help police and other enforcement catch drivers who are unlicenced and uninsured.
“Working through the RCMP, police agencies in B.C. will be enhancing and expanding the Automated Licence Plate Recognition program that exists today,” Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth said Monday.

B.C.’s elimination of the colourful licence plate stickers comes after many other jurisdictions across Canada have made similar moves.
“We know online insurance renewals are something our customers have been waiting for, and we’re pleased to announce that we’re on track to have this option go live next month,” said Nicolas Jimenez, ICBC president and CEO. “Online insurance renewals add to the growing number of digital options available to customers, providing greater convenience, choice and flexibility for British Columbians.”
Not all services will be available for renewal or request online. Changes to optional coverages, as well as lapsed policies, and new insurance policies are among the restrictions.
“This service will continue, giving customers the opportunity to renew without in-person interaction during the lead-up to online renewals and beyond,” the B.C. government added.
