Girl Guide cookies to be sold in-person again after pandemic hiatus

After two years of virtual sales, Girl Guide cookies will be sold door-to-door again this spring, starting with the famous chocolate and vanilla combo.

Over the weekend, Girl Guides BC announced the kickoff and delivery of thousands of boxes across the province, which participants will then sell for $5 each to fundraise for activities.

Diamond Isinger with Girl Guides Canada says everyone is looking forward to in-person sales.

“We will be having what we expect as door-to-door sales, public cookie booths outside of public places, and other special opportunities to sell cookies to friends, family, and neighbours. Some of our older girls will also use social media to connect with friends and market their cookies and learn some entrepreneurial skills,” she said.

Pre-pandemic, it was a big bi-annual event for Girl Guides to sell the boxes outside grocery stores and other public areas, but due to COVID concerns those sales were drastically changed. While they could still be bought online or at a London Drugs, kids missed the chance to interact with the community and learn other important life skills.

“They give them knowledge about things like money management, and sales and marketing and how to set and achieve goals. So we are really glad this cookie campaign this spring will have a wide range of options in terms of on how girls can sell,” she said.

Funds raised go towards several initiatives like overnight camps where Guides learn about nature and working together as a group.

“Cookie sales are the enabler for all of that. We rely on the support of our community to buy these delicious tasty treats,” Isinger said.
