Staff and students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) in Surrey have been given the all-clear after a potential threat on campus Thursday.
Early Thursday afternoon, KPU told staff and students at the campus to shelter in place due to a “potential imminent threat.” Mounties confirm a threat made over the phone was reported to them over the noon hour.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed into lockdown and there was a significant police presence surrounding the campus,” Surrey RCMP wrote in a statement.
Police say it was not a legitimate threat and the lockdown was lifted around 2 p.m.
Kwantlen cancelled classes until 4 p.m. as a precaution. After being given the all-clear, the university confirmed those classes remained cancelled.
Surrey RCMP has resolved the potential threat and given the all clear at KPU Surrey. Classes will resume at KPU Surrey at 4 p.m. All other KPU campuses remain open.
