Man dies after being crushed by recycling truck in Penticton, police say

A man who was in serious condition after being crushed inside a recycling truck Tuesday morning in Penticton, has passed away.

Penticton RCMP say the 52-year-old was trapped inside of the truck after appearing to be sleeping in an unlocked recycling dumpster bin. The truck picked up the dumpster, emptied it and compacted the load, accidentally crushing the man, police say.

Emergency crews were able to get the man out and take him to hospital.

The RCMP are investigating, but say it does not appear the man was the victim of any crime. The BC Corners Service is conducting its own investigation into the death.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
