It’s technically spring, but that hasn’t stopped wintry weather from coming into Metro Vancouver.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a snowfall warning Monday afternoon, forecasting up to five centimetres of snow for areas like Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Anmore, and Maple Ridge forecast on Tuesday. The warning was lifted sometime Tuesday morning.
Stormy conditions were captured during the morning commute by Darren Grieve in the CityNews 1130 Air Patrol:

CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss said the blast of winter weather is due to unstable conditions on the south coast. Some other areas has received some hail, thunderstorms, and rain.

“It’s April but it feels more like February out there and that’s going to be the case all day long. In fact, the Arctic air sticks around all week, but we get more sun, and that allows the temperature to creep up into the double digits after today,” Kuss said Tuesday morning.
He says temperatures will be cold Tuesday, and it brings some wacky weather conditions with it as it combines with the low pressure system coming from Vancouver Island.

East Vancouver Island is also under a snowfall warning from Courtenay to Campbell River.
While it may be a rare event for April, the snow is expected to be welcome at local ski hills, which remain open to spring skiing, although visibility may be difficult during some of the periods of heavier snowfall.
Although snow is not expected to reach sea level areas like Vancouver, many motorists have likely already taken their winter tires off their vehicles. Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning drivers to give themselves extra time, and to drive to conditions.
On Sunday, a storm brought thunder and hail to parts of B.C. and Washington, including Surrey and Vancouver, with many taking to social media to share their videos of the unusual weather event.
