Richmond Night Market returns for another season

The Richmond Night Market is back in full swing starting Friday night.

Owner-operator of the popular summertime tradition, Raymond Cheung, says this year’s theme is “summer magic rainbow.”

‘”This year … you’re going to see a lot of colors … a lot of the neon lights … So when you come to the market this year, you’re going to actually experience that the old night market feel, the old Shanghai …traditional night market,” he said.

Cheung admits this year shipping challenges even impacted the market. Despite ordering well ahead, packages for the event didn’t deliver until recently.

“We actually already prepared ahead this year. We actually ordered our setup back in February. It was supposed to be shipped out in February and it arrived two days ago. So it took us a little bit of challenge to empty the container and set up in two days,” he said. “But at the end, we managed it.”

This year you can expect long lines during the first week of the night market. So organizers recommend purchasing a “Zoom Pass” on-site so you can skip the line the next time you come.

The market is open until Oct. 10 and is about a block away from the Bridgeport Station Canada Line at 8351 River Road.
