There’s been another fatal police-involved shooting in Vancouver.
According to the VPD, officers were called to the Patricia Hotel at East Hastings and Dunlevy Avenue on Thursday, just after 4 p.m. for reports of a person with a weapon.
After confronting the man, police say “an altercation ensued and shots were fired.”
A man in his 40s died at the scene.
The VPD says the Independent Investigations Office has been called in and is now looking into the matter. The watchdog is called in whenever police action leads to injury or death.
This is the second fatal police-involved shooting in Vancouver in just over a week.
In late April, one person died after shots were exchanged with officers at an apartment building near Commercial Drive.
“When VPD patrol officers arrived on scene, an altercation ensued and therefore that resulted in an exchange of gunfire,” Cst. Tania Visintin with the VPD explained on April 28.
