B.C. liquor, cannabis shoppers donate $1M to support Ukraine

Shoppers at cannabis and liquor stores in B.C. have helped raise over $1 million to support Ukraine.

According to the province, a total of $1,081,272.98 was donated at BC Liquor and BC Cannabis stores from Feb. 28 to April 24, with the money going to the Canadian Red Cross’ Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.

The funds will go toward emergency-preparedness support, relief efforts, long-term recovery, resiliency, and other programs as needed in Ukraine and in nearby countries, the province adds, noting support is being extended to Ukrainians displaced by the war with Russia.

When it comes to donation at BCLs, a store in Langley raised nearly $35,116 while the shop at the Penticton Plaza put together $29,397 in donations.

At provincial cannabis stores, most of the money was raised at Kamloops Columbia Place, with $7,107, followed by a store in Cranbrook, where $5,783 was donated.
