Hopefully, the hundreds of people who played the BC Lottery Corporation’s newest scratch and win game didn’t put their tickets in the trash.
BCLC says there was a system error on Monday, when the game launched, meaning more than 500 people who scanned their tickets were told they hadn’t won, when they had.
The game was its new $3 Road to Riches Scratch & Win. In total, just under 1,900 played the game.
The lottery corporation says about 83 per cent of the tickets won $3 to $15 prizes, 15 per cent were for free-play tickets and the remaining prizes were for $20 (7 tickets), $30 (2 tickets) and $100 (1 ticket).
“BCLC began to review ticket validations for $3 Road to Riches after a player contacted BCLC on June 6, 2022, regarding a ticket that showed as “not a winner” on a ticket-checking terminal, even though the symbols scratched on the ticket corresponded to a prize,” it says in a statement.

BCLC did eventually suspend validations for the game while it was reviewed.
As of Tuesday morning, BCLC says it confirmed everything was once again working. “No other ticket was impacted by this error related to the loading of validation files into BCLC’s gaming system.”
The company has apologized for the error, and says it is reviewing what went wrong so this doesn’t happen again.
Anyone who may be affected can re-check their ticket(s) at a BCLC lottery retail location, on their app or you can call BCLC at 1.866.815.0222.
