Highway 99 fully reopened in Richmond after truck hit Cambie Road overpass

After an oversize truck struck an overpass Wednesday afternoon, Highway 99 and the Cambie Road overpass were closed throughout the day and overnight.

As of 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Drive BC says the busy route has fully reopened.

The truck hit the overpass around noon, causing its load to dislodge and fall onto a passing pickup truck in the fast lane.

The load crushed the front passenger seat but fortunately there was only a driver who narrowly escaped serious injury.  All southbound lanes are closed until further notice but traffic is currently able to detour via the Shell Rd offramp and bus lane.

The Ministry of Transportation conducted an inspection of the overpass for any damage and determined the area safe for motorists again as of Thursday.
