Vancouver police looking for witnesses after downtown sexual assault, release CCTV footage

Vancouver police are looking for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted earlier this month.

The Vancouver Police Department released a video of a person of interest in relation to the June 12 assault.

“The woman, 26, was walking near West Hastings and Hornby streets just after midnight on June 11 when a man she didn’t know grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her. After fighting him off, she chased the suspect away.,” says a police statement.

Police say the victim’s quick actions helped police get important evidence.

“This woman did everything right. She fought off her attacker, got to a safe place, and called 911,” says Cst. Tania Visintin.

“This was a very serious incident, and because the suspect is still at large we have concerns for the public’s safety,” adds Visintin.

“We’d like to identify the man in this video and we’re asking anyone who recognizes him, or anyone who saw the assault, to call us right away and speak with investigators.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 604-717-0603 or tips can also be left anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-(800)-222-8477.
