Residents of British Columbia can now use Canada Post couriers to have their order of recreational cannabis delivered to their residence.
The province says licensed cannabis retailers can deliver products directly to customers through Canada Post and other delivery-service providers beginning Friday.
The same quantity restrictions that are in effect for orders for delivery of cannabis in stores also apply to orders for cannabis placed by British Columbia residents through licensed cannabis retail stores (CRS). For instance, the province restricts orders to a limit of 30 grams of dried cannabis per order.
Cannabis deliveries can only be accepted by adults who are 19 years old or older, and they must be signed for. Deliveries are restricted to addresses in British Columbia only.
The province believes opening up more delivery options will help expand opportunities in the cannabis industry.
“Private retailers welcome this expanded delivery regime,” said Jaclynn Pehota, the executive director of Retail Cannabis Council of BC.
“This is a significant tool for our members. Government heard our request and responded. Knowing that the government supports and is creating parity within the legal cannabis industry will help retailers thrive and will continue to ensure British Columbians have a choice as consumers.”
Delivery services were referred to as a “significant tool” for operators by the Retail Cannabis Council of British Columbia.
