Vancouver police seize more than $8M in drugs, cash from gang-related investigation

More than $8 million in drugs and over $170,000 in cash were seized by Vancouver police after a two-month gang-related investigation.

Police say they obtained more than 10 kg of fentanyl, 22 kg of cocaine, and 41 kg of methamphetamine from three different locations.

“This is one of the larger drug seizures we have seen in recent years,” said Insp. Phil Heard from VPD’s Organized Crime Section. “We believe this investigation, and the substantial seizure of drugs and cash, will have a significant impact on organized crime in the Lower Mainland.

“A seizure of this size will undoubtedly reduce the amount of fentanyl and other illicit drugs sold on the streets.”

Police executed search warrants in two New Westminster residences and another in Port Moody, where $172,000 in cash, two vehicles, and a kilogram press was also seized.

The VPD’s organized crime branch initiated “Project Tint” in May to tackle high-level drug sales and distribution.

“This was a collaborative effort between the Vancouver Police Department, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit BC, and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team,” said Heard.

Two people have been arrested and the police say the investigation is ongoing.
