Thick smoke covers South Vancouver in afternoon house fire

Black smoke was plainly visible from Richmond after a fire broke out in a South Vancouver residential neighbourhood Wednesday afternoon.

It started at around 4:50 p.m. in the area of Columbia Street and 63rd Avenue, near Marine Drive.

In videos posted to both Twitter and Reddit, flames can be seen coming from a house, with thick smoke pluming over the neighbourhood.

While the number of buildings on fire remains to be confirmed, video shows the fire may have jumped onto nearby properties

CityNews has reached out to Vancouver Fire Rescue Service for more information.
