Many Tsawwassen-Duke Point BC Ferries sailings regularly selling out

The Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal has been a busy spot this summer, especially for people heading to Nanaimo. Many sailings on the route to Duke Point has been routinely selling out by morning for most of the day’s sailings.

The other main routes to Vancouver Island are Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay. Neither of those routes appear to have been booking up at the same rate as the one to Duke Point, although it’s important to note there are more frequent sailings to Swartz Bay and Departure Bay.

Many travellers trying to get from Tsawwassen to Duke Point on Monday were in for long waits. Those who didn’t have a reservation told CityNews they waited several hours at the Tsawwassen terminal.

Many say they tried to get a reservation, but all the spots had been taken almost a full week in advance.

“We tried to book. I tried to book for the last week and I couldn’t get anything. Every day, I tried,” one traveller said.

“We tried a couple weeks ago to get a reservation. It is what it is,” said another who was waiting at Tsawwassen’s terminal.

CityNews reached out to BC Ferries, which said all of the major routes are busy because it’s the summer.

As of early Tuesday, all sailings from Tsawwassen to Duke Point for the day were fully booked until 5:45 p.m.
