Vancouver Fire Rescue Services conducted a technical rescue Thursday evening, after a man fell down a steep cliff near the University of British Columbia.
Taking approximately an hour and a half to rescue, the man suffered serious head injuries, according to Battalion Chief Alberto Burrero told CityNews.

“We have an approximately 30- to 40-year-old male that fell down a steep embankment, and he suffered some pretty good head injuries,” Burrero said.
Happening around 5:15 p.m. near Agronomy Road and NW Marine Drive, people who were hiking in the area heard the man calling for help, Burrero said. Utilizing 20 to 25 firefighters to rescue the man, Burrero noted it was a “very techincal rescue” to retrieve him.

“He was stabilized eventually once the rescuers got him onto the stretcher and got him out. But he was in a very precarious place, because had he shifted any further he could have fallen quite a long distance down the cliff,” Burrero said.
Burrero says the man was transported to Vancouver General Hospital and is expected to survive.
