IHIT investigating after afternoon assault leaves one dead in Surrey

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called to Surrey after a man died Wednesday afternoon following an assault.
Surrey RCMP was called to 61 Avenue near 141 Street in South Newton after reports of an “altercation” between two men.

In a release Wednesday, IHIT says police found a man in “medical distress. Despite all attempts by first responders to save the man’s life, he succumbed to his injuries on scene.”
Police say a suspect has since been taken into custody.
