Purdys strike averted after tentative deal reached

It’s good news for chocolate lovers: A potential strike by unionized workers at Purdys Chocolatier has been averted.
Unifor Local 2000 and the company reached a tentative agreement before the 72-hour strike notice expired at midnight Tuesday.
Workers will vote on the proposal in the coming days, with more details about the contract available thereafter.

The union delivered strike notice on Sept. 8 after what it called a “lack of progress at the bargaining table.”
Better wages and wage protection amid inflation struggles were among the key asks by union members during negotiations.
Unifor Local 2000 represents more than 200 factory and warehouse members in Vancouver, including workers at a factory along Kingsway and a warehouse on Chester Street.
