Mounties in Penticton say human remains were found near the scene of a fire on Thursday.
Penticton RCMP say the Summerland Fire Department responded to a call near the Penticton Shooting Sports Range and found two bodies.
Fire crews immediately contacted police, and the deaths have been deemed suspicious, according to Mounties.
Later that day, a car fire was reported in Oliver, and investigators are working to figure out if these two events are connected.
The BC RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken control of the investigation.
“This investigation is in its infancy, as major crime investigators and forensic specialists deploy to the area to assist in gathering and analyzing evidence,” said Sergeant Chris Manseau, Acting Senior Media Relations Officer for the BC RCMP.
“Investigators are currently making attempts at identifying the deceased individuals. No further details regarding their identity will be divulged, pending their identification and identifying their next of kin.”
