Four people injured in Agassiz crash involving stolen car: RCMP

Four people were hurt in a crash in Agassiz Saturday involving what police are describing as a stolen vehicle.

According to the RCMP, investigators received word of a “stolen vehicle being driven dangerously” the afternoon of Sept. 17. Mounties say the two people in that car were known to them and that they were believed to have been connected to several thefts in the area.

The Toyota Matrix they were in was spotted just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The RCMP says that car had plates on it from a Mitsubishi Lancer that was earlier stolen in the Harrison Mills area.

Officers say they tried to stop the car, but it then crashed into another vehicle.

This collision sent the female passenger of the second vehicle to hospital with serious injuries while the driver was also hurt and taken in for treatment.

Meanwhile, both suspects — who had outstanding warrants — in the Toyota were also taken to the hospital.

The incident shut down Lougheed Highway for several hours, though it has since reopened.

Because of the RCMP’s involvement, the Independent Investigations Office of BC has been called in to determine “whether police actions contributed to the injuries sustained.”

Police are also looking into the circumstances around the stolen vehicle.
