The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has launched an online video portal on its website to help figure out who rioted following the cancellation of a performer Sunday night at the PNE Amphitheatre.
“Video evidence and eyewitness accounts will form a critical part of this investigation, as we work to identify people who destroyed property, engaged in violent behaviour, and put everyone’s safety at risk,” says Sgt. Steve Addison.
Police say an immediate criminal investigation was launched after the last-minute cancellation of the anticipated Lil Baby performance at the Breakout Festival, when a riot broke out in and around Hastings Park on Sept 18.
Food vendor stands, tables, tents and refrigerators were all damaged in the chaos, according to VPD.
Police also say there was looting and multiple fights.

“This is likely to be a long and difficult investigation, but we are committed to identifying and pursuing criminal charges against those who acted violently, destroyed property, and put other concert-goers in danger,” Addison says.
Much of the incident was documented in social media posts on TikTok and Instagram, and police are asking the public to submit videos and help them identify those involved.

“We know there are people who have evidence that can help us in this investigation, and we’re asking them to do the right thing.”
Police are asking the public to visit vpd.ca to upload video to the online portal, or call their dedicated tip line at 604-717-4021.
