Melanie Mark on medical leave, resigns from B.C. cabinet

Vancouver-Mount Pleasant MLA Melanie Mark resigned from provincial cabinet Wednesday.
Mark, the first First Nations woman elected to B.C.’s legislative assembly, informed Premier John Horgan of the decision to go on medical leave.

In a statement, Horgan says Mark will be taking leave to focus on pressing and urgent personal matters.
“While I regret that she will not be at the cabinet table, I respect her decision and her commitment to her constituents,” Horgan said.
Lisa Beare, the minister of citizen’s services, will take over Mark’s portfolio of tourism, arts, culture, and sport, effective immediately.
