Man charged after stabbing in Abbotsford parking lot

Police in Abbotsford say they have arrested a man with an “extensive criminal history” in relation to a stabbing in the city last weekend.
Early Sunday morning, Abbotsford Police Department officers found an injured man in the parking lot of Meadow Fair Plaza just after 5:30 a.m.
Police say the 41-year-old man was found with stab wounds, and was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement Thursday, police confirmed 39-year-old Abbotsford resident Derek Wilkinson has been arrested in relation to the incident.
Wilkinson has since been charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
Police say Wilkinson has been remanded in custody awaiting his next court appearance.
According to B.C. court service records, a man with the same name and born in 1983 has previously been charged with robbery, theft under $5,000, assault with a weapon, multiple charges of assault, and breach of probation.
