One arrested in Strawberry Hill incident: Surrey RCMP

An arrest has been made in connection with an incident in Surrey’s Strawberry Hill neighbourhood last month.

According to the RCMP, a group of young men was seen surrounding a police car in the complex on Sept. 11 just after 9 p.m.

Investigators say the officer in the video had been responding to a complaint made by a Strawberry Hill security guard, who reported a vehicle with “an extremely loud and disruptive exhaust system” was driving around the parking lot for three hours, “causing a disturbance.”

When the officer arrived, one person was given a ticket and a notice ordering them to have their vehicle inspected. When the officer was getting back in their car, the RCMP says “the behaviour of the group escalated.”

“Persons involved blocked the police vehicle, attempted to open the driver’s door and could be heard swearing and name calling while filming the incident,” a release reads.

Mounties say a 22-year-old man was arrested on Oct. 4 for “intimidation of the justice system participant and obstruction of a peace officer.”

The man has since been released on conditions and with a future court date set.

The RCMP says it is still looking for two suspects in connection with the incident.
