The results are in and people in North Vancouver have re-elected both incumbent mayors, Linda Buchanan and Mike Little.
Polls closed at 8 p.m. Saturday. Buchanan won with over 56 per cent of the votes over Guy Heywood in the City of North Vancouver, while Mike Little defeated Mathew Bond in the District of North Vancouver by just 322 votes.
Serving as councillors for the next term in the City of North Vancouver are Tony Valente, Don Bell, Angela Girard, Shervin Shahriari, Jessica McIlroy, and Holly Back.
Serving as councillors for the next term in the District of North Vancouver are Jordan Back, Lisa Muri, Jim Hanson, Catherine Pope, Herman Mah, and Betty Forbes.
Buchanan was the previous mayor of the city and was a former councillor and a school trustee prior to joining the council.
She holds a degree in nursing, and before pursuing politics worked as a public health nurse.
Buchanan’s platform includes tackling housing and affordability, working with other levels of government on transportation, and enhancing the city’s sense of connection and community engagement.
She lives in the Ridgeway/Grand Boulevard neighbourhood with her husband, where they raised their four children.
Heywood was also beaten by Buchanan for the mayor’s chair in 2018.
Little was a city councillor for nearly a decade, before being elected Mayor in 2018. Before joining council, Little was on the management team for a port terminal.
His platform centres around adding more transit to the North Shore — saying the city needs to focus on transportation infrastructure before committing to significant growth.
Bond was a two-term city councillor before his mayoral candidacy.
