The results are in and people in Port Moody have elected Meghan Lahti the next mayor.
Lahti was a long-time city councillor, first elected in 1996.
She’s a small business owner and has also spent time working in post-secondary education.
Lahti won on a platform which includes creating a new South Shore Park, expanding Rocky Point Park, reducing traffic congestion, and managing moderate growth. She also wants to use the former fire hall lands as a space for affordable housing, as well as a new library.
She and her husband Paul raised their three children in Port Moody.
Lahti says she enjoys travelling, sports, hiking and cycling.
Polls closed at 8 p.m. Saturday. Lahti won over Steve Milani. Former Mayor Rob Vagramov did not run again.
Milani was also a Port Moody city councillor.
Vagramov was only 26 when he was elected in 2018. He was charged with sexual assault shortly after getting the job. That charge was eventually stayed but caused friction among council members.
Voters are also electing 10 city councillors and nine school trustees for the next term.
