Richmond reelects Malcolm Brodie mayor

The results are in and people in Richmond have reelected Malcolm Brodie as mayor.

Polls closed at 8 p.m. Saturday. Brodie won with over 22,000 votes, over John Roston who gained just over 9,000 votes.

Serving as councillors for the next term are Chak Au, Carol Day, Bill McNulty, Alexa Loo, Michael Wolfe, Andy Hobbs, Laura Gillanders, and Kash Heed.

Serving as school trustees for the next term are Ken Hamaguchi, Alice Wong, Donna Sargent, Heather Larson, Debbie Tablotney, David Yang and Rod Belleza.

Brodie was first elected to the mayor’s chair in 2001 following a by-election. He was reelected in 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2014, and 2018.

Before being elected mayor he served on city council and practiced law.

Brodie won on his platform which centres around his “proven leadership” and is all about affordable housing, community safety, and keeping property taxes low.

Brodie is the chair of Metro Vancouver’s water committee and the city’s longest-serving mayor.

In addition to Brodie and Roston, Wei Ping Chen was also in the running for mayor.
