Federal election: How does Elections Canada protect marked ballots?

    UP NEXT:

Despite congratulating Brenda Locke for becoming the next Mayor of Surrey, Doug McCallum’s party says he is not conceding the mayoral race. Monika Gul reports.

It doesn’t sound like Doug McCallum plans to go quietly…

According to a statement from his Safe Surrey Coalition, the incumbent mayor is not conceding the race as there is less than a 1000 vote difference between him and Mayor-elect Brenda Locke.

Locke gathered 33,311 votes on Saturday night, while McCallum got 32,338.

McCallum’s legal advisors are reviewing B.C.’s Local Elections Act on the process of ordering a judicial recount through the BC Supreme Court, the statement says.

A major plank of Locke’s campaign was to roll back McCallum’s decision to cut ties with the RCMP and replace it with a municipal force.
