Multiple emergency services vehicles went up in flames in a targeted attack at a B.C. hotel parking lot.
Early on Wednesday morning, Smithers RCMP and Smithers Fire Department were called to the parking lot of the Sunshine Inn in Smithers B.C., located west of Babine Mountains Provincial Park.
The hotel is located in the 3800 block of 4 Ave.
Officers were able to get the fire under control, but Mounties say eight vehicles were damaged or completely destroyed in the flames, including four RCMP cruisers, and one ambulance.
“This appears to be a targeted attack on emergency services vehicles. Preliminary investigation indicates this is an arson, and we are asking for the publics assistance in providing information so that the person, or persons involved may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said in a statement.
The hotel was left undamaged, and Saunderson added, “Thankfully no one was hurt in the fire, which is the most important thing.”
“Police are continuing to review the physical, and digital evidence already gathered from the incident, including CCTV footage from the surrounding area businesses,” the statement noted.
Anyone with information or dash cam footage is asked to call Smithers RCMP at (250) 847-3233.
