A man is now recovering after he was attacked outside his place of work in North Vancouver last weekend.
According to a GoFundMe page, Jean Sebastien Jenson was assaulted and repeatedly hit with “a blunt metal object” while he was taking out the garbage in front of Dave & Mel’s Pizzeria.
“The individual caught Jean Sebastien off guard,” the fundraiser notes. “There will be a long road to recovery and Jean Sebastien is left unable to work indefinitely.”
The RCMP confirms to CityNews that officers were called to the area of West 1st Street, just west of Lonsdale Avenue, around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Investigators say they have not yet been able to confirm if this was a random stranger assault or a targeted incident.
“However, we can confirm there is no ongoing risk to the public,” Mounties said in a statement, adding they were still in the early stages of their investigation.
Meanwhile, the owners of Dave & Mel’s Pizzeria announced after the assault that the restaurant was going to be closed on Sunday, Nov. 20, due to the incident, referring to it as “a random attack.”
“Sorry this happened to anyone. Very bad when it happens to one of our employees and friends right out front of our shop,” a social media post reads.
The business owners continue to encourage people to support Jenson’s recovery by donating to the GoFundMe campaign.
The fundraiser is hoping to raise $10,000 for the man. As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 — a day after the page was launched — nearly $8,000 had been raised.
