Keep the RCMP in Surrey advocate ‘disappointed’ in trial result

The woman who played a key role in the public mischief trial of Surrey’s former mayor is weighing in after a judge found Doug McCallum not guilty.
Debi Johnstone, who McCallum accused of running over his foot last September, says she’s disappointed by the judgment and is taking time to process it.

She says while the defence “chose to make this about me”, she was ultimately not the one on trial.
She adds the last year has been hard on her family and friends, and she’s happy the proceeding is finally over.
The judge in the case says he found Johnstone’s testimony unreliable when she said she didn’t run over McCallum’s foot — something which Johnstone maintains she didn’t do.
Meanwhile, current Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke says the city will continue to explore its options over the payment of McCallum’s legal bills. An update on that front is expected in the next few weeks.
