As Metro Vancouver is hit with its first major dump of snow of the season, CityNews is your one-stop shop for your weather and traffic needs.

CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says the snow will turn to rain Wednesday after Tuesday’s massive dump across the region.

“Snowfall warnings [have been] issued for all of Metro Vancouver,” he said Monday morning, noting communities in higher elevations are set to see more flurries.

As of Wednesday morning, the snowfall warning is no longer in effect.

BC Ferries cancellations, delays

A number of sailings on BC Ferries routes between the mainland and Vancouver Island were cancelled Tuesday due to high winds.

No storm-related cancellations or delays have been announced for Wednesday as of yet.

YVR cancellations, delays

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) says its snow response is in full swing, with teams out and ready to clear runways to ensure operations can continue.

However, some airlines proactively cancelled some flights Tuesday.

“Vancouver Airport Authority (YVR) has implemented a reduced rate of departures in preparation for the forecasted snow conditions. To comply with YVR’s reductions, Air Canada has cancelled some flights – primarily Air Canada Express flights to/from regional markets operated by Jazz,” Air Canada said in a statement to OMNI News Tuesday.

Several cancellations have also been made by other airlines.

Passengers are reminded to check the status of their flight before they head out. YVR is also asking people to give themselves extra time getting to and from the airport, and to take transit if they are able to.
