Then, on Nov. 27, police say a 65-year-old man was found dead in his single-room occupancy unit a couple of blocks away in Vancouver’s Gastown neighbourhood.

Investigators say Cameron Fairful was found inside his apartment near Abbott Street and Water Street, with the incident believed to be targeted.

VPD Sgt. Steve Addison says although there are some similarities between the two cases, there is no evidence at this time to link them together.

“They’re both homicides, they’re both men, they’re both in their sixties and they both lived in, or very near to the Downtown Eastside. But beyond that, there’s nothing to suggest that these two cases may be linked,” he told CityNews.

No charges have been laid in either case, police say.

Anyone with information on either of these cases is asked to call VPD’s homicide unit at 604-717-2500.
