Tuesday’s big dump of snow has now turned into a big freeze with some very slick surfaces. Environment Canada has now issued a Special Weather Statement for the Lower Mainland due to falling temperatures and icy conditions.

From Thursday morning onwards, Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley are being warned of accumulating ice on untreated surfaces, and poor travel conditions during commuting hours.
Environment Canada says with the windchill, temperatures near -10 C are expected in windy areas.

“In the wake of Tuesday night’s snow storm, daytime temperatures rose above freezing, melting some of the snow that fell. Tonight, increasing outflow winds have brought colder air to the south coast. Windchill values ranging from -5 to -10 (-15 over the eastern Fraser Valley) are expected in areas exposed to the outflow winds,” the weather service said.

Frigid temperatures are expected to continue through the night into Friday morning.
