Surrey stabbing leaves one person dead

Mounties in Surrey say one person is dead after a stabbing in Newton Wednesday night.

Officers were called to a home near Tamanawis Secondary just before 9:30 p.m.

The RCMP says police and paramedics “immediately began lifesaving measures” upon arriving at the home. While the 40-year-old woman was taken to the hospital, she later died of her injuries.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident, with police saying there is “no risk to the public.”

Meanwhile, investigators say both the victim and suspect knew each other.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in.
