Surrey stabbing suspect was husband of victim: IHIT

A 40-year-old woman from Surrey died in her residence Wednesday evening, after being fatally stabbed, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) reported.

IHIT has identified the woman as 40-year-old Harpreet Kaur, who was married to the suspect.

The Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in a home near Tamanawis Secondary in Surrey on Wednesday evening.

When officers arrived, they found a woman in “medical distress” resulting from multiple stab wounds. She later died from her injuries after being taken to a local hospital.

The suspect was arrested at the scene but released Thursday, Dec. 8.

According to Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT, investigators continue to gather evidence and are working to “meet the charge approval threshold.”

Due to the sensitivity of the incident, no other details were provided as of yet.

At a news conference held Friday afternoon, Pierotti said that the two people involved in the incident — the suspect who was arrested and the victim — had “no negative police contact in the past that we are aware of.”

“We are still trying to build the full story of what happened, and working to develop a timeline of her actions and her history,” Pierotti added.

IHIT is asking to contact the information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
