Avalanches close Highway 1 through B.C.’s Fraser Canyon

Avalanches in the Fraser Canyon Monday have closed Highway 1 between Boston Bar and Yale in both directions.
Earlier in the day, DriveBC says the highway was closed due to “avalanche hazards,” however, callers to CityNews say at least two avalanches have covered the road, one near Hells Gate, the other near Yale.

One driver who was already on the highway when the road was closed reported they were driving south from Boston Bar but were stopped just north of Yale.

In a tweet, DriveBC says an assessment of the area is in progress and is asking drivers to avoid the area.
There is no estimated reopening time.
