Zellers B.C. locations revealed by Hudson’s Bay Company

Hudson’s Bay is opening Zellers stores across the country, including here in Vancouver. Monika Gul has more on why retail analysts think it’s a good move.

They’re not saying when exactly, but Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) has revealed where Zellers will be re-opening, a decade after closing its doors.

In B.C., there will be four locations: Pacific Centre in Downtown Vancouver, Guildford Town Centre in Surrey, 7 Oaks Shopping Centre in Abbotsford, and Aberdeen Mall in Kamloops. It has also released locations for the rest of the country.

“We’ll never forget where we came from. But we are pretty excited about where we’re going, too. And we can’t wait to show you!” reads a social media post from the Canadian discount retailer.

When Zellers finally re-enters the retail market, it will be in the form of in-store kiosks in The Bay and with a website that is said to include a marketplace component. HBC says there will be anchor categories at the launch, including housewares and home décor, furniture, small appliances, toys, and pet accessories. It’s promising its list of items will grow and will eventually include clothing.

It’s too early to say if the relaunch will be a success and it’s unlikely its restaurant will be back.

“We know how special Zellers is in the hearts and minds of people in Canada. ‘Where the lowest price is the law’ was a calling card, which has helped Zellers establish itself as more than a retail destination, but a place to build and support community,” says Adam Powell, Chief Business Officer of Zellers. “Zellers is a brand deeply rooted in the Canadian experience. Spanning generations, people hold distinct connections to Zellers through shared experiences with family and friends, and we look forward to building on that in the future.”

HBC announced it was reviving Zellers in the summer of 2022 and said it would be open to the public sometime in early 2023.
